Description

Florida State is 12 practices through preseason camp. That includes one scrimmage, a couple of scorchers in full pads at UNF in Jacksonville, and a dozen races between Mike Norvell and Braden Fiske.
Brendan Sonnone of Noles247’s On The Bench gets this episode going with a takeaway for each day of camp. This is a stream of consciousness for 25 minutes on what he’s seen through covering practices, talking to sources, and what he can confidently conclude so far through this current sample size. The likes of Brock Glenn, Johnny Wilson, Jared Verse, and others are highlighted during this segment.
Then we bring on Trey Rowland to do a 1-on-1 interview with Tre’ Jackson as we continue our 2013 National Championship Series. Jackson was a starting offensive lineman on that title team and one of the few players in FSU history to earn Unanimous All-American honors.
Time stamps for the fun interview can be seen below…
28:15 - Tre’ Jackson interview begins, starting with how he was recruiting to FSU, Rick Trickett as a recruiter, and irritating Paul Johnson.
37:00 - The time Jackson and three other freshmen on the OL started in the Champs Sports Bowl. There were some nerves involved… “Tre’, don’t be the one to mess it up, don’t be the one to mess it up.”
38:30 - The NC State loss in 2012 as the catalyst… “No one wanted to feel that feeling again.”
40:00 - Tw0 weeks before the season, Trickett came into the OL meeting room and goes “that No. 5, he has that dog in him. I told my son to get out of here, because that No. 5 has it in him.” That was the first time players had an indication of who would win the position battle.
44:12 - That time Jameis got kicked out of practice before the national championship during a two-minute drill...and he remembered it as he took the field for the final drive vs. Auburn.
49:00 - “We knew we had took their souls.” FSU’s beatdown of Clemson.
49:35 - Going against Aaron Donald and Pitt.
51:25 - Realizing the National Championship Game was going to be a battle.
51:50 - Was Auburn stealing signs? “If we sent one bullet, they’re going to send three back at us.” FSU did more than put up towels to counteract this tactic from Auburn.
54:15 - Tre’s POV of Jameis’ TD pass to KB.
57:30 - Playing for Coach Trickett.
58:30 - Is 2013 FSU the greatest team in college football history?
