(8/9/23) The Market Sell-off continues, even as Europe takes its August break; reward for companies beating lowered earnings estimates has been muted; NFIB Report (50% of economy is small businesses w 1-5 employees): Seeing an uptick in sentiment and cap-ex spending. Tuesday's Market sell-off takes out previous low, trending to the 50-DMA. The NASDAQ bounces back to 50-DMA: Can Apple get its act together? Mega-cap stocks have been the market drivers; small- and mid-cap stocks are going nowhere. Still no evidence of Recession; the market has been running ahead of economy fot 6- to 9-months; results are starting to appear. Declining data has been telling us the economy was "sick," no surprise now that it is "feeling better." Look at the data trend and rate of change. Has Stagflation (high inflation w slow growth) virtually gone away? Economy is being resilient w 2-3% growth; no recession. Defining "Job Creation." Deficit spending to continue; what is the destiny for interest rates? The source of inflation was not organic (stimmie checks). CBO Debt Report: Government cannot issue new debt in a rising interest rate environment: Why rates WILL come down. We do not have a normal bond market, thanks to Fed monetizing debt to keep rates low. Bonds are most over-sold. Cannot have economic growth in high interest rate environment; why bonds will be he best investments for a while.
