Description

“Gengetsu Junsei” entered formal Buddhist practice in 1993 and received Dharma Transmission in the Soto Zen Buddhist Lineage from Zenkei Blanche Hartman in 2009. Jana led the Street Zendo at 234 Hyde Street, where meditation practices of all kinds are welcome, and was a practice leader of the Gay Buddhist Sangha. Rev. Drakka was a community activist, particularly for the rights of the poor and disenfranchised, and believed that mindfulness practice is 24/7. Every Gay pride Weekend you would find Jana offering an opening blessing from the Trans Stage. Jana’s nonprofit organization, Jana Drakka Community Services, provided a wide range of services including support groups, workshops, classes and talks. Jana’s community work was based in Harm Reduction Principles—a way to meet everyone with complete acceptance—and allows for a client-centered modality. Jana died in 2017 at the age of 65.
