Kobai Scott Whitney was a friend of Issan Dorsey and part of the first group of Gay Buddhists who met in the late 1970s. That group later evolved into such entities as GBF and Issan-ji Zendo. Whitney has practiced with Aitken Roshi's group since the early 1980s. He lives at Koko An Zendo n Honolulu and works as a writer and magazine editor.
