Description
DOOM.
On today's podcast, I discuss the July 2023 book "DOOM GUY: Life in First Person" by John Romero. Romero is a member of the id Software video game team that created the multi-million-dollar Doom, Wolfenstein 3-D, and Quake franchises. Romero writes about how his early childhood impacted his workplace skills, his first jobs at Origin and Softdisk, the halcyon days of id and the subsequent breakup following the development of Quake, as well as his time helming Ion Storm. I recap the book, share my thoughts and takeaways, and examine contemporary media that referenced John's work.

Opening clip from "The Color of Money" (1986).
Doom and Keen music by Bobby Prince. Quake music by Trent Reznor.
