She began farming as a hobby more than a decade ago and pursued it full-time when her job as an environmental engineer for the state was eliminated.Farmer J, as her friends call her, has learned first-hand that growing food locally is healing for people, communities, and the planet. Through her work in Atlanta and on her TV show, Jamila encourages folks to garden, plant their own food, and take an interest in farmers’ markets.
