Description

Trumpeter Pete Olstad is our special guest this episode. Pete Olstad is a SoCal native who earned a performance/educator degree at Berklee College of Music in Boston. During his student days, he placed prominently in the Thelonius Monk Institute’s trumpet competition, concurrent with Downbeat Magazine’s early recognition of his skills. He had a series of sideman/soloist slots with Maynard Ferguson, Woody Herman, Mel Torme, Tom Jones, and most recently, Latin pop star Luis Miguel. He is widely recognized as a trumpet virtuoso who is essentially a robust and passionate swing stylist, with an intense modernist edge. The show notes for this episode are at www.bobreeves.com/52.
