Description

Over the past week, Sudan's interminable "transition" tipped over into civil war. The coup-happy military junta has split up, with the two components of the old dictator's army, the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), facing each other in bloody battles in the capital Khartoum and across the country. In this podcast, we aim to provide you with an in-depth analysis of the causes and consequences of this conflict, as well as the humanitarian crisis that has resulted from it.
In this episode we dive in on the two warring leaders, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan (SAF) and Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo AKA Hemedti (RSF) as well as the legacy of Omar al-Bashir, the dictator they deposed back in 2019. This episode includes Sudanese history, and the best analysis of the current situation we can muster, but it also explores the potential impacts of this spiraling conflict on already troubled neighbors like Libya, Egypt, South Sudan, Ethiopia and Chad. The ruinous impact of outside powers like Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates is examined, and a path forward for the United States, Russia and China is suggested. The next weeks are crucial, not just for Sudan's next decade, but for the future of the Sahel and Africa as a whole.
We hope this episode will provide our listeners with a deeper understanding of the current situation in Sudan and the ongoing struggles of its people. We believe that by shedding light on these issues, we can create a greater awareness of the situation and contribute to a more informed and engaged global community. So, join us on this journey as we explore the complexities of the current Sudanese conflict.

The More Freedom Foundation is trying to save the world every week. We’re at an odd point in history. We could be on the cusp of a new Golden Age, or we could be marching down the path to World War III. Despite the picture presented by most of our media, the world really is in great shape. The world is governed by US power and a set of institutions that have largely succeeded in bringing about unparalleled peace and prosperity. The only country strong enough to tear down this Pax Americana is the US itself.
