Many people erroneously confuse the terms of demonologist and demonolator and use them interchangeably. One is the study of demons throughout history and across every culture and the other is the worship of demons. To the devoutly religious, the study of demons is just as important as it is to a demonologist because understanding the nature of demons can help a person protect themselves from their influence. A demonologist has a greater understanding of what demons are and where they originated from. In ancient times demons were a way to explain diseases, famine, desire, fear and world events.
