Description

We are SO lucky to have a western doctor join us for another episode of our COVID-19: Perspective Series. Our intention with this series is to bring you unique conversations with people who bring different perspectives to the table about the current state of the world. Last week we spoke with Rabbi Wolpe and this week we are honored to have Dr. Stephanie, a Critical Care Pulmonologist who works in Portland, Oregon, with us on #DENtalksPodcast. If you want to know the nitty gritty details about the virus and how it’s affecting our health care system, this is the episode for you! Dr. Stephanie shares with us what her and her team have been experiencing over the last few months from when they first started to hear about the virus back in December 2019, to the care they are providing today. She discusses how the virus affects your lungs, how they are seeing universally low oxygen levels present in all patients who are hospitalized, debunks the use of Hydroxychloroquine as a “cure” to the virus, breaks down what happened in Italy and how by social distancing we are not stopping the virus in its tracks but we are helping the health care system get to a place where it can help those we are sick instead of being overwhelmed with mass numbers of people. This is an episode filled with HOPE and POSITIVITY as Dr. Stephanie shares with us how she feels we are in a much better position now than we were weeks ago, how new information is being discovered daily, how people are sharing information more openly than ever before in the medical field, and how hospital staff have banned together in an “all hands on deck” mentality to rework systems and volunteer extra time to be sure that everyone gets the care they need. She shares with us how she has seen nurses and doctors show an overwhelming amount of care and support to their patients and how she believes that this crisis is making us all realize the importance of community and that we are all much closer than we think. This is a very special look into the inner workings of today’s hospitals and how our healthcare system is fighting COVID-19!***We're offering ALL OUR CLASSES VIRTUALLY!
