Description

After Tom McKean (ep 29) suggested that NCSA invite Morénike Giwa Onaiwu, a prominent neurodiversity advocate, on the podcast, we were thrilled when she agreed to join us for a special episode about the splintered autism community. We had a productive conversation, and spoiler alert, not many sparks flew. In reality, we found we had much more in common than not, and share a passion for tangible progress in the field of lifespan autism care and housing.Morénike is a global activist-scholar, author, and community leader who is passionate about human rights, justice, and inclusion. Morénike is American-born to immigrant parents, possesses undergraduate and graduate degrees in International Relations, Education, and Interdisciplinary Humanities. She is involved in various social justice advocacy endeavors including neurodiversity, public pedagogy, multimodal learning, anti-HIV stigma, participatory research, technology, disability justice, and racial and gender equity. She currently serves on the federal Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee (IACC).
