Description
We near the end of Marrr-ch, a month named for what else but pirate films, with a film that wrestles with a very different kind of pirate along with not even hanging "pirate" in its original British title: Pirate Radio (The Boat that Rocked). Movie Geeks United's Adam Long programs the episode and stops by to talk about indie comedies of the late 2000s and whether this film's use of music matches the subject material. Starring a whole raft of then-up-and-coming British comedians, it follows the exploits of Radio Rock, a pirate radio station situated on a boat in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. The boat broadcasts music 24 hours a day, which at the time wasn't the norm in the UK, and begins to draw the attention of stodgy government-types hellbent on stopping the party. It's a fun little romp that overstays its welcome by about twenty minutes. For more episodes of the Kulturecast along with many more podcasts that are guaranteed to be your new favorite audio obsession, check out Weirding Way Media at weirdingwaymedia.com.
