Occult Corner: A different sort of discussion this week.  We revisited the theme of the Satanic Panic (which we covered in an earlier episode) but had a lively discussion on the historical conservative moral panics that seem to follow socially progressive eras; and more importantly, how they’re continuing to unfold in current events.  We talk about the fall of the Roman Republic, the fall of the Weimar Republic, social reactions to the Civil Rights Movement and second wave feminism in America in the late 60’s/70’s, the Satanic Panic in the 80’s/90’s, and the current iterations of cult guru Teal Swan and the Q Anon conspiracy theories.
 
We draw heavily on the podcasts Conspirituality, Behind the Bastards, and You’re Wrong About.  For more about the fall of the Roman Republic, Lauren highly recommends The Storm Before The Storm by Mike Duncan or his podcast The History of Rome.
