The film's story was inspired by true events in the Manitoba Colony in Bolivia. The film premiered at Telluride Film Festival and has been listed as one of the top ten films of the year by both the National Board of Review and the American Film Institute. It will have a limited release on December 23, 2022, before expanding on January 20, 2023.
