On today's show, we're calling this the "mid-point" of free agency and looking at winners and losers, from a team level. The Philadelphia Phillies, San Francisco Giants, and San Diego Padres feel like the clear winners so far in free agency, adding generational players on long-term deals as well as making other moves (like adding pitching) that should help them be competitive in their respective divisions. Conversely, Boston has had a TERRIBLE free agency period so far, losing Xander Bogaerts to San Diego and overpaying for OF Masatuka Yoshida, 3B Justin Turner, & closer Kenley Jansen. The Los Angeles Dodgers haven't had a lot of free agency wins, but that's by design (we think), while the Baltimore Orioles refuse to spend money to take advantage of a possible playoff spot available through the AL East. There's also some teams we're not sure about: The Houston Astros, New York Mets, and Atlanta Braves all upgraded around the margins, but when you're already a playoff team, do you really need to be really active in free agency?
