MNAM's holiday season kicks off with this Ted Demme-directed movie about a professional thief who gets more than he bargained for while holding a dysfunctional family hostage. THE REF was released to little fanfare in March of 1994, but has since gained a cult following as an unconventional Christmas classic thanks to its sharp performances and biting, profanity-laced dialogue.
