The organization was founded in April 2010 as Mybandisthebest.com and changed to World Mentoring Academy in June 2010 by American engineer Michael Williams "HomelessEducator" a graduate of California State University, Long Beach. With the stated mission of "Providing open education to the World", WMA offers free access to a collection of more than 20,000 online lectures from over 840 university & educational courses, teaching K-12, Trade School, undergraduate & graduate courses. In 2010, World Mentoring Academy began using an open community Learning Management System (LMS) using available open courseware(OCW) materials from over 100 universities and educational institutions."
