Description

Oh, hello there. It’s been a while, hasn’t it? I know this feed has been pretty quiet this year, but that doesn’t mean we haven’t been working on things. In fact, next week, we’re going to drop a big project called Welcome to Vanguard Estates. It’s a fiction project, that is formatted as a choose your own path story with 14 different endings. So you’ll get a bunch of opportunities to actually pick what happens in the story.
The piece is about aging, and tech, and surveillance, and parents, and all that complicated, stressful, emotionally dense stuff.
Next week you’re going to get the whole story all at once, next week. So this is your warning, when you suddenly see 30 new episodes of Flash Forward all at once, that’s what that is.
After that (starting November 7th) we’re going to do some follow up episodes where we talk to experts about the real stuff that inspired the story. We'll cover everything from the neuroscience of aging, to research misconduct in Alzheimer's treatment, to robots that can put your clothes on, to the (dire) economics of care, to whether we should have nursing homes at all.
So gird your podcast loins, friends, because it’s going to be… something. I’m really excited for you to hear it.

Titles in the series (100)

Flash Forward is a show about possible (and not so possible) future scenarios. What would the warranty on a sex robot look like? How would diplomacy work if we couldn’t lie? Could there ever be a fecal transplant black market? (Complicated, it wouldn’t, and yes, respectively, in case you’re curious.) Hosted and produced by award winning science journalist Rose Eveleth, each episode combines audio drama and journalism to go deep on potential tomorrows, and uncovers what those futures might really be like. The future is going to be weird, so let's get ready for it together.
