Description

Welcome, friends, to a very special edition of the Real Life Podcast. This week, the boys were thrilled to welcome former Oiler, Ladislav Smid, to the show to talk a little bit about hockey and a whole lot about life. In part 1 of the interview, we discussed Smid's reaction to getting traded to Edmonton from Anaheim, driving Nicklas Lidstrom around the city, the Battle of Alberta and a whole lot more. To start off part 1 of the interview, we started with a look at how Ladislav Smid became an Oiler in the first place and where he was when he found out he was traded. His reaction to finding out that he was moved for Chris Pronger is absolutely hilarious, and hearing his first-hand account of the deal is well worth your time. From there, we got into life as an Oiler and what it was like to find out that he would be sticking with the roster after spending the previous year in the AHL. In his eight years with the Oilers, Smid went through a wide range of new experiences, including being tutored by Jason Smith and Steve Staios which transformed his style of game and turned him into the player we all loved. From working on his English as a means to ingratiate himself to his new teammates to driving Nicklas Lidstrom around the city when the Red Wings were in town, Smid's interview was refreshingly open and honest and we know you'll love every moment.   Hosted on Acast.
