Description
Jen Wilkin, JT English, and Kyle Worley look at Romans 5:1-11 and discuss justification by faith. Questions Covered in This Episode:What is justification? What does it mean to be justified “by faith?”Why is peace with God a benefit to justification? What does it mean to “rejoice in hope of the glory of God?”Rejoicing in our sufferings (V. 3-5)?Has there been a season of life that you walked through suffering and what did it produce in you?Is there a more beautiful verse than Romans 5:6?What is Paul trying to do in V. 7-11?What is the kind of person Christ died for?Discuss the phrase “shall we be saved.” Am I saved or will I be saved?Helpful Definitions:Justification: To have God’s righteousness accounted to us. Because of what Jesus has done on the cross our sin was accounted to him and His righteousness is accounted to us.Imputation: Jesus’s righteousness has been imputed (or given, or granted) to us through our faith in His Lordship.Faith: Being able to say and confess Jesus Christ is Lord. Includes giving your whole self away to Jesus as King. The instrument of our salvation. Faith receives everything from the work of Christ and contributes nothing to it. A gift that God gives so that we can receive more of God’s gifts, namely, the grace of salvation. Faith does not actualize something, it is a belief in something that has already been actualized. Our agreement, our affections, and our allegiance. When we are justified by the blood of Christ, we are saved from sin’s penalty. As we are being sanctified, we are being saved from sin’s power. When we are glorified, we are finally and fully saved from sin's presence.Resources Mentioned in This Episode:Romans 5:1-11, Romans 1:16-17, Romans 3:11Knowing Faith Romans EpisodesStoryline Church Romans Sermon SeriesMosaic Church Romans Sermon SeriesThe Village Church Institute Romans Bible StudyKnowing Faith Episode #117 – The Righteous Shall Live By FaithAmazon affiliate links are used where appropriate.
