The San Francisco Giants are just about cooked. This was a period in which they needed to take advantage of the schedule and get red hot. Instead, the SF Giants just had a 2-6 road trip which culminated in a sweep by the Twins in which the Giants were outscored 20-5. The Giants' brutal 2022 season continues.
Technically, the Giants are still alive, and it helps that they're about to play the Padres. If the Giants can somehow manage to sweep, they'll be just 4.5 games back with 33 to play. But anything less than a sweep seemingly won't be good enough. The Giants pretty much can't afford to lose the rest of the way.
The Giants continue to be old and banged up. Evan Longoria tweaked his hamstring again. Joc Pederson has a groin issue. Mike Yastrzemski's calf is bothering him. Luis González is sick. The Giants are not only an old, injury-prone team; they're also just not very good when everyone is healthy.
It's going to be a vitally important offseason. The Giants must change the way they operate or else it'd be foolish to expect better results next season. They really must get younger and more athletic. They have to acquire some everyday players and not just pick up platoon bats off the scrap heap. Time may be running out for one or more of Yastrzemski, LaMonte Wade Jr., and others. This miserable season should light a fire under the Giants' front office.
