In this episode of LITTLE ME, the multi-talented Laura Bell Bundy breaks down her illustrious career playing several of the most notable roles in musical theater – Tina in Ruthless, Amber Von Tussle in Hairspray, Glinda in Wicked, and Elle Woods in Legally Blonde!
Laura sits down with Broadway Workshop director, Marc Tumminelli and shares incredible stories of growing up in a musical family, learning to act and sing by mimicking her environment, winning the Miss Peewee Hemisphere Pageant and receiving a prize of a brand-new car at five years old, her mom being her biggest cheerleader and advocate, going on the Phil Donahue Show, signing with Ford Modeling and seeing her first Broadway show, Starlight Express!
Laura tells LITTLE ME listeners about booking her first major production – The Radio City Christmas Spectacular, originating the role of Tina in Ruthless! The Musical in which her understudies were Britney Spears and Natalie Portman, filming The Adventures of Huck Finn, Life with Mikey, and Jumanji in the following years, performing in Gypsy at Paper Mill Playhouse opposite Betty Buckley and Deborah Gibson when she was a senior in high school, booking the role of Amber Von Tussle in the hit Broadway musical Hairspray, what it was like to be a standby for Kristin Chenoweth in Wicked and the excitement of going on as Glinda for the first time, creating the role of Elle Woods in Legally Blonde, and receiving her first Tony Award nomination for her incredible performance.
Laura talks about her new album Women of Tomorrow, her passion for women’s equality, and the importance of artists educating audiences about social justice issues.
