I have seen nonprofit fundraising teams write the most emotive stories to try and pull on people's heartstrings to give!

I get it. Your nonprofit needs funding and these stories are emotional.

But the problem is that this emotional storytelling (whether via video, pictures, blogs, etc.) can actually dishonor your beneficiaries.

Just think about if your clients or beneficiaries read or watched what you wrote.

Would they feel empowered?

Or, would they feel disempowered?

Mary Gladstone-Highland, CEO of Spark Group Consulting, is on the Grant Writing & Funding podcast and YouTube video to discuss how to share your nonprofit’s mission without misery through your story-telling.
