Before joining the D.C. bureau, he was a staff writer at Washington City Paper and a freelancer contributing to Slate, the New Republic, the Washington Post and Outside magazine, among other outlets. He's won the Livingston Award for Young Journalists, the Hillman Foundation's Sidney Award, and the Deadline Club Award for best business feature. He's also the author of a non-fiction book, "Mint Condition: How Baseball Cards Became an American Obsession" (Grove/Atlantic).
