Description

Arguably the two most important plays in the history of the New Orleans Saints came on special teams. On September 25, 2006, safety Steve Gleason blocked an Atlanta Falcons punt, producing the Saints' first touchdown in New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina. It was the fulfillment of a promise that the Saints would return to New Orleans after the hurricane decimated the city and forced the team to play in San Antonio and Baton Rouge the year prior– but it wasn't a Super Bowl.Three and a half years later, down 10-6 at halftime of Super Bowl XLIV against the Indianapolis Colts, a decision was made in the Saints' locker room that would shock the world, change the momentum of the game and lead to the Saints' first Super Bowl victory ever: Sean Payton ordered punter Thomas Morstead to start the second half with a surprise onside kick.Yahoo Sports' Charles Robinson and Dan Wetzel sit down with Morstead almost nine years after that day to discuss how it happened: what transpired over halftime in that locker room that led to that risky decision and what was it like being one of the only people in the world who knew what was about to transpire.Be sure to visit Yahoo Sports later in the week for videos and articles about Morstead's famous kick as we provide tons of Super Bowl content heading into Super Bowl XLIII.
