Description

This week we sit down with writer, director, animator and professional spicy boi Rob Jabbaz! His feature debut is an extreme horror film called The Sadness, which has been traveling the festival circuit and picking up awards and anguished faces alike. We chat about his love of gore, how he was infused with spookiness from his birth and then discuss just how they got the blood in The Sadness to look so gnarly and vibrant and how he filmed the movie during COVID. Then we talk about David Cronenberg's The Fly (1986). We discuss how a random scene tormented him for years and what young Terry took from it, as well as Mary Beth's first (!!) thoughts on the film. Along the way, we talk about the AIDS metaphor, the love triangles and how the two men have an opposite narrative trajectory and how Cronenberg's films are filled with more nuance than expected. The Sadness is hitting a variety of film festivals and should see its release next year. In the meantime, follow Rob on Instagram and Twitter. Follow Mary Beth, Terry and the Podcast on Twitter.
