Why are you so passionate about mental health care in the primary care setting? When did you first experience your own challenges with mental health? What is your advice for mental health professionals and medical professionals when it comes to prioritizing their own mental health? In this episode, Dr. Linda Gask answers these questions and much more about her own personal journey with mental health as a provider and a patient. Dr. Linda Gask is a writer and a psychiatrist. She retired from being a consultant in the National Health Service and an academic at the University of Manchester some years ago. However she returned for a year during the coronavirus pandemic to work with the Greater Manchester Bereavement Service and she is now Emerita Professor of Primary Care Psychiatry at the University of Manchester. She has been an advisor to the World Health Organization and was awarded the President’s Medal by the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2017. She has experienced anxiety and depression throughout her adult life and she has written two memoirs called “The Other Side of Silence” and “Finding True North: The Healing Power of Place.” She was born in England, trained in Scotland where she currently resides.
