Description
It's the Friday Gotta Watch The Tape from cleveland.com, and we're breaking down both sides of the showdown between Baker Mayfield the the NFL's No. 1 ranked defense. So thanks for joining Doug Lesmerises, Scott Patsko and Ellis Williams for this twice-weekly deep dive into the Browns using numbers and film.
First up, Scott analyzes Mayfield and how the Browns have used him so far this season in the play-action game. Kevin Stefanski and Freddie Kitchens have different ideas on how to use play-action, and what Stefanski wants to do this year seems to makes a lot of sense. But so far, Mayfield's play-action numbers don't quite stack up to what he did under Kitchens last year. Why is that? Scott will tell you, and he predicts how things will continue with this big part of what the Browns ask Mayfield to do.
Then Ellis takes a deep look at the Indianapolis defense that the Browns are facing Sunday and just why that group ranks first in the league in defensive DVOA. Ellis looks at the talent up front, the scheme that will require Mayfield to hit tight windows on Sunday, and the success that the Colts' defense has had this season on third down. This is the best defense the Browns have faced so far, and we'll know a lot more about this Cleveland offense after Sunday.
