Description

This week we’re discussing the inspiration for the 1986 book The Haunted and the 1991 TV movie of the same name. The Smurl Haunting is a classic tale of poltergeist activity, auditory and visual phenomena, and ghost hunter shenanigans. After being displaced from their homes due to flooding on hurricane Agnes, Jack and Janet Smurl moved their family into a duplex in West Pittston, Pennsylvania. It wasn’t long before the madness began. Ed and Lorraine Warren were called in to investigate and obviously ended up making things much worse. Instantly declaring the presence of a demonic presence in classic Ed Warren fashion, they attempted several unsanctioned exorcisms of the home but ultimately suffered through this haunting for 15 years. Campfire: Tales of the Strange and Unsettling is created for adult audiences only. The content and discussion in this show will necessarily engage with various accounts that include violence, anxiety, fear, and occasional body horror. Much of it will be emotionally and intellectually challenging to engage with. We will flag especially graphic or intense content so as to never put you in an uninformed or unprepared position. We will do our best to make this a space where we can engage bravely, empathetically, and thoughtfully with difficult content every week. This week’s episode includes the following sensitive content:Descriptions/Sound related to the Following:Child Endangerment Violence Against ChildrenSexual AssaultSexual ViolenceCheck it Out!The Haunted: One Family's Nightmare https://a.co/d/ca3rKRSInterview Clipshttps://youtu.be/0H-diIIHiUMhttps://youtu.be/IForFs3VRYUhttps://youtu.be/uaPgA12CPjwAdverts!Support Campfire on Patreon:https://www.patreon.com/campfiretalesofthestrangeandunsettlingSatisfy All of Your Merch Needs:https://www.teepublic.com/stores/campfire-tales-of-the-strange-and-unsettling?ref_id=25702Join the conversation on social media atwww.campfirepodcastnetwork.com Discord: https://discord.gg/43CPN3rzInstagram:instagram.com/campfire.tales.podcastGoodPods:https://goodpods.app.link/T0qvGnXnplbTwitter:www.twitter.com/campfiretotsau Facebook:www.facebook.com/campfire.tales.podcastVisit Our Linktree for Any and All Campfire Info:https://linktr.ee/CampfirepodcastSpecial Thanks:Gregg Martin for music contributions!
