Description

Today's Topic: We noticed in our work with clients that there is a wide variety of dog parenting styles, whether it’s those that are characterized by rules, obedience and punishment, or those that are more neglectful and uninvolved in nature, and everything in between. So it got us wondering where these dog parenting styles came from, whether it was from our parents, our culture, our race, our religion, our background, our life experience, or something else entirely. Unfortunately, there isn’t a lot of information related to dog parenting styles, but we did notice an eerie similarity to child parenting styles. That’s why we invited pediatric psychologist, parent coach, and the owner of A New Day Pediatric Psychology, PLLC., Dr. Ann-Louise Lockhart, to the pod, to see if there are any insights we could glean from her understanding of the different types of child parenting styles, and their effects, but also where they came from. Guest Bio: Dr. Ann-Louise Lockhart is the President and Owner of A New Day Pediatric Psychology, PLLC. She received her doctorate in 2006 from the Arizona School of Professional Psychology. She started her practice in January 2016 after practicing in military clinics and hospitals for 10 years. She is passionate about what she does. She cares about people and wants the best for them in their lives. She has an easy-going, but direct style, and believes people do best when they feel heard and have supportive people in their lives. She really loves helping parents better understand and connect with their children in order to transform the parent-child relationship.  She was born and raised on the island of St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands. She loves movies, fashion, and food. She has been married for 23 years and has two kids (ages 9 and 11).Connect With Dr. Ann-Louise Lockhart:Website: https://www.anewdaysa.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dr.annlouise.lockhartOther Links:4 Types of Parenting Styles and Their Effects on Kids: https://www.verywellfamily.com/types-of-parenting-styles-1095045
