Description

Welcome to the 99th episode of Urbcast, in which we will talk about: Sitopia: How can food save our cities? ?
Today I am fulfilling one of my dreams, talking to an architect & writer who inspired and influenced me a lot.
Meet Carolyn Steel - the leading thinker on food and cities and the author of two books on food: The Hungry City & Sitopia.
Why should we talk about it?
Needless to say that food is something that we can’t go without. But how many of us have ever reflected on how our eating habits impact our cities? Or did we ever realize that, at the same time, it’s the cities we live in that inscribe us in our food choices?
Why is it worth listening to?
Because Carolyn vast that she translated into two books devoted to the food topic, is a brilliant possibility to reflect about how do we perceive food in our daily lives, in cities and beyond. You can also learn how to reconnect with the food that you consume on the daily basis.
Sitopia, one of my favorite books, is the background to our discussion, but we also talked about:

If sitos is food, and topos is place, then the main theme equals...
How did the food industry have been shaping our cities and towns?
Is food production and distribution a burning topic in architecture and urban planning nowadays?
How to reform food production and distribution to avoid climate change?
What steps should we, as citizens, take to be more food and nutrition-conscious?
How can we reconnect with food (and its production)?
