In leading the largest orthopaedics department in the DoD, he helps guide a multispecialty department for care of active duty soldiers, retirees, and their families. As faculty at San Antonio Military Medical Center he is the sole pediatric orthopaedic surgeon in the US Air Force. Previously the Associate Program Director of the Orthopaedic Residency Program at SAMMC. Practice interests include the care of pediatric developmental conditions and injuries, adolescent sports medicine, and young adult hip pathology with both open and arthroscopic hip preservation techniques . Dr. Schmitz is also currently one of the team physicians for the USA Men's National Rugby Team. Goal of episode: To develop a baseline knowledge on DDH.
