Description
Another bloodbath in a school and another discussion about what to do to stop the violence. A growing group of citizens argue that it makes sense to ban military style weapons from being sold to non military personnel while those supporting the NRA and the gun lobby make the case that the solution lies with keeping guns out of the hands of the "mentally ill." None of those who sing with the latter chorus ever discuss the extreme difficulties of implementing their approach. What constitutes mental illness? Whose definition do we use? Who are the mentally healthy that should be allowed to carry assault rifles? What do we do with those diagnosed as mentally ill? How should they be treated and by whom? Those interested in a fuller discussion of the concepts of "mental illness" and "mental health" please visit my broadcast of 10/30/2017 Psycho"therapy" and "Mental Health."
