Description

Psycho"therapy" usually involves a discussion between two or more individuals, one of whom is struggling with ideas and emotions that have made his of her life unbearable. The initial themes are often of three types. The first expresses self-hatred, rage against the self, hopelessness and helplessness and often begins with the words "I'm too depressed to live any longer. I want to die." The second involves themes of victimization usually at the hands of family members or other familiars such as spouses, close friends, work associates or even one's own children. These themes and stories contain rage and hatred against others or even the world in general. The last of our discussed themes express disappointment in the life the individual is living, the failure to achieve important life goals and the dreams of youth that once made life so exciting to live. These existential stories are often accompanied with rage against the self and others as well as hopelessness and helplessness. I will end today's podcast by begining a discussion of what ultimately became my goals as a psycho'therapist" which, over time, I realized had to be my own as well as the people I worked with.
