Description

A young man who while driving drunk killed four people. His defense was based on the testimony of a psychologist that the man was not responsible for his actions because he suffered a mental defect or disorder. The disorder, which was given the clever name "Affluenza" had come about because the young man was not properly disciplined and had been given anything he had ever asked for by his wealthy parents. The jury apparently bought this story and the judge sentenced the man to probation and house arrest instead of sending him to prison. We will discuss this tragic-comedy as reprsenting a new low point brought about by the pseudoscience of psychiatry and the mental health industry that have confused an already seriously confused public. My story will try and untangle the scientific and moral mess all of this has brought about in our beleagured society.
