The Chicago Cubs had an interesting trade deadline, acquiring three pitchers in Hayden Wesneski (from the New York Yankees for reliever Scott Effross), Ben Brown (from the Philadelphia Phillies for closer David Robertson) and Saul Gonzalez (from the New York Mets for reliever Mychal Givens), but most notably *NOT* trading catcher Willson Contreras and outfielder Ian Happ. We discuss the overall philosophies of this farm system, including developing tons of pitching with cut-ride fastballs and gyrospin sliders and finding hitters that are defensively versatile that hit for power and put the ball in the air. We close with some players to keep an eye on, like RHP Daniel Palencia, 1B Matt Mervis, and RHP Jeremiah Estrada.
