Description
This episode of Red Inker is on one of cricket’s most remarkable spells by the man who bowled it, Aasif Karim. In 2003 I was backpacking around the World Cup, and we headed to Durban for the Kenya vs Australia match. We really didn’t expect much, as good as Kenya had been in the tournament, no one expected them to put up such of a fight against Australia. Brett Lee started with a hat-trick, Kenya limped to a sub-par total, and then Adam Gilchrist hit Kenya’s best bowlers out of Kingsmead. The match was heading for an obvious result when what looked like a middle-aged insurance broker came on to bowl. And what followed was extraordinary, as the world’s best team were stopped dead in their tracks by a man who had played a lifetime already, and who no one had noticed.

Introduction: <p>It's a show about the issues in cricket, every week there will be a different guest talking about a big topic in cricket. It's the stories that I am interested in, such as 'Has Jofra Archer been treated differently?' 'How do you play in a world cup qualifier when you lose a third of your squad during the tournament?' 'What pace do women bowl?' Every time I see a great cricket story out there, I'll try and get an expert on the topic to come to chat about it.</p> <p>Read by <strong>Jarrod Kimber</strong></p> <p>Production by <strong>Nick McCorriston</strong> (<a href="https://www.nickamc.com">https://www.nickamc.com</a>)</p> <p>Music: <a href="https://freemusicarchive.org/music/Red_Crickets/II_1013">Red Crickets - The Prisoner</a></p> <p>Music appears via a Creative Commons licence, and has been edited to fit purpose.</p> <p><a href="https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/">Licence</a></p> <p><a href="https://freemusicarchive.org/music/Red_Crickets" by Red Inker With Jarrod Kimber
