Fern Mallis steps Behind The Rope. Fashion Industry Titan, The Godmother of Fashion, Best Selling Author, Trailblazer, Someone who has worked in every aspect of the Fashion Business, Fern Mallis! After a brief chat with this Brooklyn native about her early career in various aspects of Fashion, including her tenure as Executive Director at the CFDA, Fern describes how she came up with and executed 7th on Sixth Productions or, as it is commonly referred to today, the Iconic, Cannot Live Without, Would Die to Attend, spun off in many other cities and countries, New York Fashion Week. Fern discuses what Fashion was like back in the day and how she reinvented herself into one of the top interviewers in Fashion History with her Iconic talks at the 92nd Street Y. These talks are now part of her second installment of books, "Fashion Icons 2” in which Fern chats about some of her recent interviews - Christian Siriano, Victoria Beckham, Tim Gunn and Bob Mackie, to name a few. Of course we chatted with Fern about the many Reality TV Programs she was a part of - Project Runway, America’s Next Top Model, Bravo’s The Fashion Show - discussing what each of those experiences was like, many of her well known co-stars and whether Fashion Competition Shows work (no pun intended Tim Gunn). Fern opens up about the Celebrity Designer relationship, the ‘business” of The Red Carpet and Celebrity Turned Designers - Posh Spice, MKO/Ash Olsen, Kim Kardashian, we are talking to you! Speaking of Kim Kardashian, we break down the recent Marilyn Monroe Met Gala “fiasco” and what it means for the future of iconic pieces on “loan” to celebrities. Of course, we ask Fern about many of her Housewives’ friends - Dorinda Medley, Ramona Singer, Countess Lu and Heather Thomson and the involvement of NYFW on RHONY. Finally, we ask Fern to reflect back on a career that most could only dream of, a career that has been awarded with so many accolades we cannot even begin to mention them all, to take it all in and also, of course, to divulge what is next for this Fashion Guru that just does not seem to be slowing down any time soon!
