In March of 1891, the suspects waited to be released from prison, but they began hearing alarming sounds outside. A mob of thousands gathered in the streets and demanded vigilante justice. The guards in the jail couldn’t – or wouldn’t – turn back the mob, and the vigilantes took their revenge.
