This is the Marketplace Minute. I’m Meghan McCarty Carino.
STORY 1
Stocks tumbled Monday.
The Dow lost more than two percent.
The S&P was down about 1 and half percent.
And the NASDAQ fell about one percent
STORY 2
Concern about the rising spread of the highly infectious delta variant led the State Department and CDC to issue new travel warnings for the UK. Meanwhile Canada has said it will open its border to vaccinated travelers from the US on August 8.
STORY 3
The National Bureau of Economic Research has determined that the pandemic recession that began in February 2020 … ended just two months later in April. That makes it the shortest recession in US history … even though the economy has not returned to its pre-pandemic state.
