Description

A woman in Georgia is crying foul saying that police detectives lied to her in order to obtain her DNA. Police then used that DNA and the relatively new investigative genetic genealogy technique to match her son to a cold case murder. Asking innocent people to voluntarily provide their DNA is known as “target testing” and when this case goes to trial in June, it could be the first to explore how police conduct investigations using genetic genealogy. Jon Schuppe, reporter for NBC News Digital, joins us for how once again the use of genetic genealogy by police is being questioned.

Next, More cases of COVID-19 are popping up in the U.S. as authorities were also investigating a possible wider spread in Washington State after the first recorded death there. Vice President Mike Pence tried to put Americans at ease over the weekend, but did acknowledge we would see more cases. Joe Biden scored a huge win in South Carolina, giving him the momentum heading into Super Tuesday. Still, Bernie Sanders leads the delegate count for now. Ginger Gibson, political reporter for Reuters, joins us to break it all down.
