Description
Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) hang out to talk about why The Edge of Seventeen Should’ve Been Gay. First things first, this movie stars Hailee Steinfeld as Nadine. So off the bat it’s already clearly supposed to be gay. Nadine and Krista have been madly in love since they met as children, but somehow they don’t end up together. Instead they have a horrific friend breakup because Krista starts dating Nadine’s brother. Somehow Hailee Steinfeld keeps getting cast as the lesbian who cannot stop sleeping with their sister-in-law. We have talked before about the trope of the brother as a stand in when movies are too cowardly to be gay. This movie is the extreme version of that. Every classic mistake ever made by closeted high school kids happens in this movie. The film really makes so much more sense when viewed through a gay lens, but it is also so painful to watch. One thing is for sure, The Edge of Seventeen Should’ve Been Gay. Follow along on Twitter: Lez Hang Out (@lezhangoutpod) and answer our Q & Gay at the end of every episode.
