A new species of shark has been discovered in the Gulf of Mexico by a team of researchers in 2010. The 5.5-inch American pocket shark was fully described in the researchers' article in the Zootaxa journal.  I discuss the continued importance to explore the deep-sea as understanding this area could help human survival in the future.
