Description
Ocean Optimism is always good to have when trying to do Marine Conservation; however, the optimism is quickly dissipating with the Vaquita in the Sea of Cortez, Mexico. As you may know, the small porpoise that is known as the Vaquita is closer to extinction every day because of the fishery of another endangered species called the totoaba, which is fished for its swim bladder and shipped to Asia for "medicinal" purposes. There may be a slight chance in their recovery as researchers may have been mistaken regarding the frequency of births among the vaquita population as there may have been a mistake in estimating the number of times a sexually mature female will reproduce. It used to be every 2 years and now it may be every year. Do you think reproducing once a year will help with the recovery of the Vaquita?
