As we get deeper into the geomorphic evidence for megafloods, RC provides some historical reference for the evolution of the so-called “Missoula Floods” that were identified in the 1920’s by Harlen Bretz, who traversed the Channeled Scablands of eastern Washington. He called them the Spokane Floods and speculated that the floods came from accelerated melting of the Cordilleran Ice Sheet, but later tentatively accepted the uniformitarian explanation that an ice dam repeatedly formed and released a giant impounded lake from western Montana.
