Description

Marc Dutroux was a Belgian serial killer and child rapist. In 1989 Dutroux was convicted of five sexual assaults and sentenced to thirteen years in prison. He only served three years. Over the next four years, he kidnapped and raped young girls, some of whom he murdered. He had several accomplices, including his own wife. The case led to speculation about inefficiency and corruption in Belgian law enforcement and politics. The public denounced the police for failing to pursue leads and ignoring witnesses. Join Mike and Gibby for part 1 of their discussion on Marc Dutroux. This remains one of Belgium’s most notorious criminal trials. Marc Dutroux’s crimes against children shocked the country. The public despised him so much that over a third of Belgians with the last name Dutroux legally changed their names. There was further outrage at the conduct of judges and prosecutors in the case. In part one of the Marc Dutroux episodes we’ll discuss his early life and crimes, his known victims, how he was finally arrested, and shocking witness testimony. You can help support the show at patreon.com/truecrimeallthetimeVisit the show's website at truecrimeallthetime.com for contact, merchandise, and donation informationAn Emash Digital productionSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
