John Horton died at the age of 22 on March 30th 2009, while in a solitary confinement cell in Los Angeles' Men's Central Jail. There were conflicting autopsy reports, but ultimately John's mother, Helen Jones, was able to learn about the extensive trauma John suffered leading up to his death. LA county originally listed John's death as suicide, but the Jones family believes this was staged to help move attention away from the potential that John was killed by a Los Angeles Sherriff Department gang known as the 3000 Boys.

CALL TO ACTION

Helen Jones would like you to use whatever means possible to amplify…

“John Horton who was murdered, beat to death on March 30th 2009 in Men's Central Jail by ten 3000 Boys’ deputy Sheriff gang members that viciously run the 3rd floor of Men's Central County Jail. 12 years later and still no justice for John.”

“Jalani Lovett who was also beaten to death and murdered by the 3000 Boys deputy sheriff gang on September 22nd 2021. And the 3000 Boys gang tried to stage Jalani Lovett's death.”

“WE MUST STOP THE SHERIFF'S GANGS FROM COMMITING GENOCIDE ON OUR CHILDREN NOW. THE GANGS BEEN KILLING BLACK AND BROWN FOLKS SINCE THE 1970'S FOR GANG INITIATION.” - Helen Jones

Titles in the series (94)

Webby & New York Festival Award Winning series focusing on the assault and killing of Black people by police and in ‘Stand Your Ground’ states, highlighting incidents throughout the United States. Serving as a memorialization for these individuals, we learn about who these people were through the the words of the people that knew them best, while also helping us understand what these situations do to their families and communities not only in the immediate aftermath, but also what happens when the news-cycle moves on and the social media attention shifts focus. We offer solutions, spread awareness and support for these families & communities, including a crowdfunding campaign throughout the series to directly benefit the families impacted by these incidents (they receive 100% of those proceeds), so that we can make an immediate tangible difference.
