Description
I’ve been getting into TikTok a lot lately — don’t judge! — and that’s where I stumbled across the work of this week’s guest: Gabe Gault! Gabe’s brilliant portraiture blends the work of the Renaissance masters with Black culture in a brilliant and beautiful way. Not only that, he painted the largest mural in the world — the Glass City River Wall in Toledo, Ohio. I mean…talk about impressive!Gabe talked about how he landed this massive project, and talked about growing up an artist in a big sports family. We also discussed Black fine artists being exhibited through this new wave of Black-created media, lessons he’s learned throughout his creative journeys, and even talk a bit about NFTs and the metaverse. If you’re looking for a creative pep talk, just follow Gabe’s advice: “Go out there and create on any scale!”LinksGabe Gault’s WebsiteGabe Gault on InstagramGabe Gault on TikTokGabe Gault on TwitterGlass City River WallFor extended show notes, including a full transcript of this interview, visit revisionpath.com.==========Sponsored by Brevity & WitBrevity & Wit is a strategy and design firm committed to designing a more inclusive and equitable world. We accomplish this through graphic design, presentations and workshops around I-D-E-A: inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility. If you’re curious to learn how to combine a passion for I-D-E-A with design, check us out at brevityandwit.com.Brevity & Wit — creative excellence without the grind.==========Follow and SubscribeLike this episode? 156: Douglas Davis: I've known about Douglas Davis for years because of his work with HOW Design University. I finally met him in person this year at HOW Design Live, and was delighted to have him come on the show! Douglas stays busy — he’s a former professor at NYU and a current adjunct professor at City College's Branding and Integrated Communications graduate program, as well as a designer and creative strategist with his own firm called The Davis Group. Now he can add another title to his resume -- author! His new book, Creative Strategy and the Business of Design, is a must-have for any designer out there looking to level up their skills. We started off talking about how he started his creative strategy firm, the inspiration behind writing his book, and what he's learned from his students over the years. And because this is HBCU Month, we also talked about Hampton University and how they prepared him for furthering his journey and education as a designer. Thank you Douglas for be by Revision Path
