George’s original draft of Episode IV was going to have the story of Star Wars narrated by godlike, very powerful, omniscient beings known as The Whills. They would tell the epic story of Star Wars from events archived in their Journals. George Lucas would reconstruct the idea of The Whills into what would later be known as “The Force.” The Whills would actually come to life later on in The Clone Wars as the omniscient entities that teach Qui Gon Jinn how to become a Force ghost.
