Today we are going to dive into an interesting moment from Return of the Jedi. At the end of The Empire Strikes Back, Darth Vader confesses to Luke that he is his father. Vader invites Luke to rule the galaxy with him as father and son. Vader has been forced to stay in allegiance with the Emperor, but Vader’s true desire is to overthrow the Emperor. If Vader wanted the Emperor to be destroyed, why did Vader stop Luke from killing the Emperor in episode 6? It stands to reason that Vader would have benefited from Luke taking his best shot to end Palpatine once and for all. So why block him?
